Meeting held of the Biomass Support Unit in its extended composition
On 21 March 2016 in the premises of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce a meeting was held of the Biomass Support Unit in its extended composition. Apart from the standing members coming from the ranks of the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, the meeting was attended by representative of other project partners: the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, and the Regional Development Agency Srem. The meeting was organized by the UNDP. The purpose of the meeting was to present project activities implemented during the preceding quarter and to define an indicative plan of activities for the forthcoming period.
Visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia
The Resident Representative of the UN and UNDP in Serbia, Mrs. Irena Vojackova Sollorano, with her associates on 12 February 2016 visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and met with Aleksandra Tomić, Ph.D., Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee for agriculture, regional development, trade, tourism and energy and the Parliamentary Energy Forum, who on that occasion presented to Mrs. Vojackova Sollorano the competences of the Committee and the activities and results achieved by three informal parliamentary groups since their establishment: the Parliamentary Forum for Energy Policy, the Women’s Parliamentary Network, and the Green MP Group.
Serbia participates in the historic Paris Agreement to combat climate change
On December 12, 2015 in Paris, the representatives of 195 nations made a historic agreement to combat climate change and unleash actions and investment towards a low carbon, resilient and sustainable future. Serbia and its representatives contributed to forging this global partnership based on a common cause with other states and their common historic, current and future responsibilities.
The Ministry of Mining and Energy and UNDP embark on introducing Energy Management System in municipalities
The operational implementation of the project “Removing Barriers to Promote and Support Energy Management Systems in Municipalities (EMS) throughout Serbia” began on December 14, 2015 when the workshop on introducing energy management in local self-governments was held in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.
The Ministry of Mining and Energy Signed Six Grant Contract for Construction of Biomass and Biogas Fired Combined Head and Power Plants
On November 13, 2015, the contracts with the representatives of six companies granted with the funds for the construction of new biomass/biogas fired combined heat and power (CHP) facilities were signed in the Ministry of Mining and Energy. The contracts worth USD 1.6 million were signed by the Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Antić, who stressed the strategic orientation of the Government to raise the contribution of renewable resources in the total energy production in Serbia.
Six Companies Selected for the Support in the Construction of Biomass/biogas Fired Combined Heat and Power Plants
The Public Call for Grants for the construction of biomass/biogas fired combined heat and power (CHP) facilities the Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia announced in May this year was closed on October 15, 2015. On the same day, the ten-member Commission formed by the Minister of Mining and Energy opened 10 timely submitted applications, six of which met the Call conditions. These were evaluated and selected for financial support in the total value of 1.6 million USD provided by the GEF-UNDP Project „Reducing Barriers to accelerate the Development of Biomass Markets in Serbia“.
