Students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade Visited a CHP Plant in Ilandza

On Tuesday, 31 October 2017, students of the final year of the IC engines and HVAC departments at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade took part in a one-day technical visit to a biogas plant of the company Biogasenergy, located in Ilandza near Alibunar. The students visited a newly opened biogas plant for combined heat and power generation whose construction was financially supported by UNDP/GEF project “Reducing Barriers to Accelerate the Development of Biomass Markets in Serbia”. Students were greeted by Mr. Danko Vukovic, director of “Biogasenergy” company.

The visit included practical classes where students could see the combined production of heat and power, as an upgrade to the lectures they attended so far. Furthermore, students learned about the entire process of energy generation from biogas, starting with the collection and storage of row material, through preparation and fermentation to the combustion of biogas in internal combustion engines and the generation of heat and power.

Mr. Dragoslav Arezina, a process engineer, delivered a lecture with a practical presentation of the technology of biogas production, and professor Dragan Knezevic delivered a lecture on specifics of gas fired engines. Professor Milos Banjac, Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the National Project Director of the GEF Project, joined the visit and delivered a lecture on the political and legislative framework, as well as on the national goals in the field of renewable energy in Serbia, after which students gained a wider picture of the significance of such facilities.

This was the first in a series of educational visits planned for students of technical faculties of universities in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
