Six Projects for the Installation of Biomass Fired Boilers to Heat Public Buildings within the Competence of Local Self-government Units

Six projects for the installation of biomass fired boilers to heat public facilities within the competence of local self-government units have been completed. Funds for the realization of projects have been awarded on the basis of the results of the public call for local self-government units announced by the Ministry of Mining and Energy. In 2017 Aleksandar Antic, Minister of Mining and Energy signed contracts with representatives of local self-governments on awarding grants for co-financing projects for the improvement of energy efficiency in public buildings within their competence. A total of 25 million dinars from the Budget Fund for the Improvement of Energy Efficiency and 500,000 USD from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have been allocated, through the Project “Removing Barriers to Promote and Support Energy Management Systems in Municipalities throughout Serbia”. Six out of thirteen selected projects focus on fossil fuel switch to biomass by using energy efficiency measures on building envelopes and internal heating installations. The total value of these six projects is around 680,000 USD. This demonstrates the synergy between two projects funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP.
